About the Role

The Senior Software Engineer is a key member of the Digital Service team, responsible for the design, development, and optimisation of high-quality software solutions. Operating at a delivery level, this role collaborates closely with the Digital Applications & Products teams, the Manager Development, and a range of business stakeholders to build scalable, secure, and effective applications. In addition to hands-on development, the Senior Software Engineer provides technical leadership, promotes best practices in modern software engineering, and mentors other developers to strengthen the team's overall capability and performance.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Senior Software Engineer reports into the Manager, Development which sits within the Digital Applications & Products function. This team is responsible for the delivery and support of digital products and services that enable essential corporate, regulatory, and sector-specific functions across the organisation. The team plays a crutial role ensuring systems are robust, secure, and aligned with modern technology standards.

Teams are structured around the applications and products they support, enabling standardised processes and nationally consistent outcomes. Organised into service portfolios and domains, this structure ensures delivery is aligned to clinical and operational needs while advancing national standardisation efforts.

About you

As a seasoned digital leader with a strong technical foundation, the successful candidate will thrive in complex delivery environments and bring a passion for driving effective, scalable, and innovative software solutions. The Senior Software Engineer provides technical leadership, champions best practices, and mentors other engineers to enhance the team's overall capability. You will also have the following skills and experience to support your success in the role:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
  • Proven ability to design, develop, and deploy applications using multiple programming languages (e.g., Java, C#, Python, JavaScript) and modern frameworks (e.g., Spring, .NET, React, Angular).
  • Strong experience with Agile development methodologies, testing frameworks and version control (e.g., Git).
  • Comprehensive experience with AWS and Azure cloud services is essential for ths role.
  • Experience in the health sector is highly desirable.
