About your team - Ko te tīma 

We are responsible for providing high quality legal advice and support to WorkSafe including the Board, the Executive Leadership Team and our Chief Executive. We have a particular focus on supporting WorkSafe's operational functions, which includes investigations, authorisations and technical advisory work for the numerous regulatory regimes WorkSafe has responsibilities for. We have teams in both Auckland and Wellington and two permanent opportunities available for Senior Solicitors - Advice in either city, and the potential to work from Christchurch for the right candidate.

About the role - Ō te tūranga

As a Senior Solicitor - Advice, you will play a crucial role in providing legal advice, guidance, and support to WorkSafe in relation to the performance of its functions and powers and operational matters more broadly. You will be interpreting complex and technical regulatory regimes and providing high-quality, practical advice to assist WorkSafe to achieve its operational objectives. Depending on experience, you may also be involved in WorkSafe's civil litigation portfolio as instructing counsel.  

You will bring the understanding of WorkSafe's business and the cross-organisational perspective needed to ensure that our Legal function continues to be the centre of expertise in the delivery of high quality and consistent legal advice to the organisation.   

What You'll Do - Ko tōu ake mahi

  • Provide high quality legal advice and guidance with a focus on public law and health and safety
  • With the right experience, support WorkSafe in the conduct of its civil litigation matters, as required
  • Provide the legal input and proactive support required to help WorkSafe deliver on its priority plans.
  • Contribute to the development of other team members and the overall performance of the team by sharing your knowledge and expertise and through mentoring and peer review.

What You'll Bring - Ko ngā pukenga ōu

  • 5+ years' experience in general public law and/or health and safety law
  • NZ practising certificate (or the ability to obtain one)
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in law
  • Proven relationship management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Salary range - Awhe utu

As part of our remuneration framework the full salary range for the position is from $138,259 to $182,456, and our expected starting base salary for the right person is from $138,259 to $158,148, however appointment within this range will be based on skills and relevant post-admission experience.  Note: KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contribution is additional too/on top of your base salary.
