About the Role
We have two exciting opportunities for one permanent full-time social worker and a 12-month fixed-term full time social worker.
You will be primarily based at Waikato Hospital, where the focus of the role will be to support the Older Persons and Rehabilitation wards. In this rewarding role, you will be responsible providing support to individuals and families, ensuring their well being and connecting them to essential resources. You will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working in a dynamic and support environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting comprehensive assessments and developing tailored support plans to address client needs.
- Advocate for clients’ rights, ensuring they have access to necessary services and empowering them to make informed decisions.
- Provide immediate support and connecting clients in crisis emergency resource, ensuring safety and stability.
- Working with a wide range of professional and community organisations to create a network for clients.

About the Team
Social Workers are key members of the multi-disciplinary team, working directly with clients/whānau during difficult times. Our Social Work team covers Medicine, Surgery, Older Persons & Rehabilitation, Renal, Oncology, Emergency Department, Critical Care, Women's Health, Paediatrics and Community. Although our team works within a range of health services in hospital, you will predominantly be working in the Older Persons & Rehabilitation wards.
Our team works within a range of health services in hospital and community-based settings throughout the Waikato district and reports professionally to their manager within our Allied Health Service. We provide a range of health and wellbeing services to promote a healthy, happy workforce.

About you
To be successful in this position, we are looking for an individual with:
- A current registration with the Social Workers Registration Board (New Zealand) with a valid practising certificate
- A Diploma, Bachelors or Master of Social Work as recognised by the SWRB
- Previous experience in the application of social work processes, theories, models and concepts professional competence to ensure quality health social work is provided to clients and their family / whanau / carers
- The ability to demonstrate the highest standards of personal, professional and institutional behaviour through commitment, loyalty and integrity
- A willingness to undertake tasks in a culturally sensitive manner and be able to work effectively with and around people
