About the role

As a social worker in the Allied Health Unit, you will support patients in acute, rehabilitation and outpatient settings. Working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, you'll advocate for patients and their whānau, ensuring their holistic needs are met throughout their healthcare journey.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Conducting assessments, interventions and evaluations to support patients and whānau
  • Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to facilitate continuity of care and patient flow
  • Protecting vulnerable patients from harm due to abuse or neglect
  • Coordinating with community services to deliver wrap-around support for patients
  • Addressing social determinants of health and advocating for equity to enhance well-being

About the Team/Service/Location

Our Southland Allied Health team is small enough to foster strong relationships and collegial support, yet broad enough to offer rich clinical variety. You'll be part of a collaborative environment that prioritises quality, equity and whānau-centred care, with district-wide professional networks across the Southern region.

Based in Invercargill, Southland Hospital offers short commutes, affordable living and easy access to Queenstown, Dunedin and Fiordland's natural beauty.

About you

To excel in this role, you'll bring the following:

  • Be registered with the New Zealand Social Workers Registration Board and hold a current annual practising certificate (essential)
  • Have more than two years' experience in health, disability or aged care settings
  • Be confident working across diverse patient groups in a hospital environment
  • Demonstrate strong assessment, communication and advocacy skills
  • Have a sound understanding of Aotearoa's health and social service system, and experience working within an interdisciplinary team

Salary range

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the PSA Allied, Public Health, Scientific & Technical CEA and the salary will be in accordance with the Core Pay Scale, between Step two $82,856 and Step eight $110,210 p.a depending on relevant experience.
