At the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) | Te Tira Tiaki, our mission is to protect and enhance Aotearoa New Zealand's security and wellbeing. We provide Signals Intelligence and Cyber Security and resilience to organisations of national significance to successfully navigate in an unpredictable world.

The role:

We have opportunities at all levels of seniority within our Mission Capabilities Unit, based across Auckland and Wellington.

The roles will sit in the Application Services team, which provides an enterprise development function supporting a range of corporate and mission applications. It will be specifically focused on developing and sustaining two important applications that support security vetting and intelligence investigations functions.

Below are the skills are experience we hope you will be able to bring to the role:

Most relevant:

  • Java and/or Javascript/Typescript/Reactjs
  • Containers and Kubernetes fundamentals
  • Database fundamentals in one or more of ElasticSearch, Redis, MariaDB and Postgres
  • Comfortable working across the full SDLC and using CI/CD

Desirable:

  • Experience with RedHat OpenShift
  • Experience working with Appian and its proprietary expression language
  • Familiarity with rules engines
  • Good understanding of applied DevSecOps

While this role will have its specific focuses, it will likely be involved with other initiatives as required, so the ideal candidate will be adaptable and comfortable working on different, and sometimes new, things.

Appointing range for each level: 

Level 1 - $87,048 - $92,851

Level 2 - $103,009 - $109,876

Level 3 - $120,359 - $128,383

Before you apply

Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.

You must:

  • Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years

OR

Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years

  • Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
    • Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
