The Electoral Commission is looking for a Solutions Architect to join the Information Technology team. You will be part of a great, supportive and fun team that is dedicated to ensuring the Commission's IT solutions run smoothly and securely so that it can deliver excellent services to the public. 

The position will report to the Manager, Applications and will be responsible for providing technical leadership, guidance and direction on the design, development, security, infrastructure, testing, implementation and integrations of the Commission's information management systems.

This is a permanent role with no direct reports.

You love communicating complex technical ideas and options to a wide audience in a way that makes sense to them and allows the best decision to be made. You have broad architecture skills and experience in several domains including integration, cloud, and security. You will enjoy working on a variety of tasks in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment. You are great at establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with a diverse range of people across all levels.

He aha tāu e mahi ana | What you'll be doing

  • Align IT solutions with the Commission's business strategic direction and work programme.
  • Contribute to various application development and IT infrastructure projects, ensuring they are delivered according to architectural principles & standards.
  • Provide high level technical design and solution architecture documentation.
  • Support project-related procurement, including the development and evaluation of business cases & market tenders, contributing to negotiations and assessment of service quality.
  • Contribute to project-related testing of IT infrastructure & applications.
  • Design and implementation of information system security controls in conjunction with third party vendors.
  • Develop roadmaps for the Commissions' technology products and services, assessing the current state and performance of its assets.

Ko ngā mea ka hiahiatia e koe kia angitū | What you'll need to succeed

  • 5-10 years of progressive experience with a wide variety of infrastructure and applications solutions and systems.
  • Understanding of relevant industry and public sector IT strategies and standards.
  • Experience in undertaking solution option analysis, investment decision making, and asset quality assessment.
  • Skills in developing architectural standards, policies, guidance, and procedures including cyber security and business continuity.
  • Ability to influence action and behavioural change with expert negotiating skills. 
  • Familiarity with engaging in architectural governance and decision-making functions.
  • Exposure to certification & accreditation processes and documentation.
  • Understanding of best practice IT procurement and contract management processes within the Public Sector, including preparation and evaluation of Requests for Information and Requests for Proposals. 
  • A relevant tertiary or industry qualification.
