Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We have an opportunity for passionate people leaders to join us as team leaders in our national Environmental Planning team of 60. This Auckland-based role leading a high-performing team of Planners across Auckland and Northland.
This is a vital leadership role where you will build and support your high performing team. The wider team's work crosses the full spectrum of NZ statutory environmental planning processes - from district plan reviews through to designations and consenting for projects. You will be a key member of the national Environmental Planning Leadership Team and the broader leadership cohort for the System Design part of NZTA.
Championing Waka Kotahi values and behaviours, you'll be an authentic people leader who leads a team to provide:
- Support the broader Environmental Planning team's focus on continuous improvement and being a national centre of excellence of environmental planning
- Professional relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and customers, and being able to influence effectively across the NZTA business, key stakeholders and industry
- Building and maintaining a team who provide high quality technical expertise in all facets of RMA planning and other statutory processes related to the necessary consenting and permissions required for Waka Kotahi works across design, delivery and maintenance
- Building and maintaining a team who influence local government processes through both formal and informal means to ensure effects of third-party activities and growth on the transport network are taken into account in decision making
- Staying connected to relevant legislative and policy changes and proactively ensuring NZTA is ready to deliver successfully in response to that rapidly changing context.

You'll be a genuine and proven people leader, with experience leading engaged, high performing teams. You'll also bring:
- Experience in successfully driving, delivering and embedding improvement initiatives, continuous improvement programmes and broader change initiatives
- Sound leadership attributes
- Experience with remote people leadership is desirable
- Experience in creating high performing teams, including growing and developing team members
- A good understanding of policy and legislation as it relates to infrastructure and transport, including an understanding of the changing nature of this work
- Ability to work strategically within a national context
- Ability to influence effectively across a wide range of stakeholder
