The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is the heart of Aotearoa New Zealand's cyber defence. We fulfil the cyber security responsibilities of the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) | Te Tira Tiaki, detect and disrupt high-impact cyber threats for nationally significant organisations.

The role
As Team Leader Application Engineering, you will be leading a team of software engineers to develop and integrate software solutions that form a core part of NCSC cyber defence capability.
The ideal applicant for this role is someone with a technical background in software development and integration with experience across people and technical leadership, or wanting to develop further in this space.
Key responsibilities
- Team leadership
- Provide technical oversight for engineering solutions
- Working alongside other leaders to develop work plans for the team and unit
- Maintain positive relationships across partners and stakeholders
Who we're looking for
The key experience we're looking for includes:
- Software Development & DevOps: strong understanding of what it is and how it adds value
- Adaptability and Resilience: the ability to manage complex technology work streams and associated problems
- People leadership: working with others to achieve results
You may currently be in a technical role with technical leadership elements looking to grow as a people leader OR you may already have the people leadership experience and are keen to expand your technical skillset.
You will also have:
- Excellent communication skills
- Analytical skills
- An understanding, or willingness to learn, cyber security concepts
Before you apply
Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.
You must:
- Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
OR
Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years - Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
- Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15-year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.

The expected appointment range for this opportunity is $120,359 - $128,383.
