About our team - Ko te tīma

Our Energy Safety Team at  WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru are the regulator for ensuring the safe supply and use of electricity and gas in Aotearoa.  We operate under the Electricity Act 1992 and the Gas Act 1992 and are responsible for developing and applying internationally accepted electrical and gas safety standards for New Zealand.

Our team is committed to promoting and ensuring the safe supply and use of gas and electricity. It works with industry and the public to promote high safety and quality standards in networks, installations and products. 

We are a small, but supportive team based in locations across Aotearoa. We have regular virtual catch-ups to stay connected as a team across our work and socially. We are committed to career development and make the most of opportunities to get together for technical training.

About the role - Ō te tūranga

As a Team Leader you will lead, manage and coordinate the work of Energy Safety team to ensure that all the expertise in the team is used effectively across the work programme. You will have a close working relationship closely with our other Team Leader, working in an aligned and coordinated way.

You will contribute and grow people and team management best practice to ensure desired outcomes are being risk manage and achieved. Relevant industry experience or expertise in areas such as technical expertise in a related area of electricity, gas and /or compliance and regulatory enforcement would be viewed as favourable.  

We have one permanent vacant position available. As part of the team, you'll liaise with Aotearoa industry and have a significant impact on electricity safety through interventions which change industry and public behaviour. 

What You'll Do - Ko tōu ake mahi

  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Mentor, coach, nurture and develop this high performing team.
  • Oversee workload distribution, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Communicate effectively, ensuring team members are informed and aligned with organisational priorities.
  • Stay updated on industry developments, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to inform decision-making.
  • Act as the key liaison between technical teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.

What You'll Bring - Ko ngā pukenga ōu   

  • Extensive demonstrated experience in leading technical professionals.
  • Ability and initiative to recognise safety regulatory risks.
  • Experience and knowledge of the administration of regulatory frameworks and standardisation.
  • Ability to self-manage work portfolios and work well under pressure.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and administer regulatory requirements.
  • Practical risk or compliance management experience.
  • Past or current Electrical or Gas Practicing Licence (advantageous but not essential).

Salary range - Awhe utu 

As part of our remuneration framework the full salary range for the position is from $138,259 to $182,456. The appointment range for the successful candidate will be from step 1 $138,259 to the midpoint $152,991. Note: KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contribution is additional too/on top of your base salary.
