Team Leader, Risk Management – Permanent, Full time
We're looking for an experienced team leader for our Risk Management team. You'll be leading a busy team, doing rewarding and important mahi to ensure learners receive quality tertiary education.

About the role
NZQA is responsible for ensuring the quality of tertiary education organisations (excluding universities) and the qualifications and programmes being delivered across New Zealand. The Risk Management team focuses on the strategic and active management of compliance and risk in the tertiary sector. This includes educational quality, student safety and financial compliance.
We are seeking an experienced Team Leader with a successful track record, ideally with previous experience in compliance or investigation.
Some of the things you will be doing are:
- Leading a team of analysts in making robust and timely decisions on tertiary education risk cases, including cases with political or media interest
- Developing a strong, high performing culture; enabling people to be their best and feel supported
- Monitoring, reporting and providing advice on the work and performance of the team
- Identifying and implementing improvements to team processes and customer experience
- Working with the Risk Management leadership team to set priorities and respond to changes in the tertiary education environment
- Collaborating with other NZQA teams and other relevant agencies
Skills and experience
We are looking for people with a mix of skills and experience:
- Leadership: Leadership expertise and a passion for building awesome teams
- Management capability: strong experience in managing people and teams to achieve objectives
- Initiative: Energy, drive, and the passion to add value in a high-pressure environment are key. You will be a ‘doer' with a continual improvement mindset who enjoys seeing the outcomes of their work
- Judgement: Comfortable working with ambiguity and applying judgement through using critical thinking expertise and political nous
- Relationship Skills: Excellent communication and relationship management skills, and a gift for building strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
- Cultural awareness: You are committed to building your cultural competencies and deepening your understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Knowledge of the New Zealand tertiary education sector would be an advantage.
