The position
This is a position for an experienced Technical External Sales Engineer in Bay of Plenty or Waikato to cover those regions. This is a customer facing position which entails making sales calls, visiting customer sites, and providing expert technical support and solutions. You’ll manage and grow an established client base while actively seeking new business opportunities.
The salary is in the range of $90-120k, dependent on experience. Also provided is a phone, laptop, car and fuel card, bonus, and Southern Cross health cover.
Main duties
Sales & Account Management: Promote products and services across your region maintaining and strengthening relationships with existing clients and distributors
Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities and applications, expanding market presence.
Site Visits: Conduct regular visits to customer facilities to understand their requirements, deliver product demonstrations, and recommend tailored drive solutions.
Technical Support: Serve as a trusted technical advisor, providing hands-on support and troubleshooting for rotating equipment (motors, gear units, drives etc) both in person and via phone/email.
Project Collaboration: Work closely with engineering and support teams to develop proposals and quotes that meet customer needs. Ensure clients are updated on new product developments and upgrades.
Reporting & Planning: Prepare sales forecasts, visit reports, and account plans. Attend sales meetings and contribute to growth strategy
Skills & Experience required
- Minimum of 3 years, ideally 5+ years experience of technical sales in industrial or engineering products (gained in New Zealand or overseas) for drive solutions or rotating equipment (motors, gearboxes, variable speed drives).
- Strong understanding of mechanical and/or electrical power transmission. Familiarity with industrial automation, motion control, or power transmission products is desirable.
- A proven track record of solution selling to industrial customers and achieving sales targets.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or related) OR a relevant trade qualification combined with solid experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with a diverse range of customers.
- Able to translate complex technical information into value for clients and are confident in presenting and negotiating.
- Full NZ driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly.
