We are seeking a skilled and motivated Tradesperson Leading Hand to join our Facilities and Maintenance team, supporting the safe and efficient operation of plant, equipment, and facilities across the West Coast. Based at Buller Hospital, this role plays a key part in maintaining healthcare environments to a safe and accreditable standard.
About the Role
The Tradesperson Leading Hand is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of trades staff, ensuring hospital buildings, plant, and services are maintained effectively and efficiently. This role combines hands-on technical work with team leadership and planning responsibilities and works closely with the Maintenance Manager to support broader asset management and capital development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Duties
- Organise trades staff to deliver timely and compliant maintenance services
- Order and collect materials as needed for planned and reactive work
- Monitor progress of tasks and escalate complex technical issues to the Maintenance Manager
- Ensure accurate documentation of maintenance activities
Maintenance of Buildings, Plant, Services and Equipment
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and defect repairs
- Complete minor projects and capital works as directed
- Notify end-users of job progress and completion as appropriate
Resource and Documentation Management
- Assist with technical training of staff and contractors as needed
- Keep all drawings, manuals, and documentation up to date
- Provide input into capital works planning and procurement
- Support asset management planning and compliance processes
Health and Safety
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations
- Identify and report hazards
- Guide contractors on safety expectations while on site
- Complete incident reports as required
About you
Essential Requirements
- Recognised trade qualification relevant to the role
- Proven experience in a maintenance or facilities environment
- Ability to work independently and lead others
- Strong problem-solving and organisational skills
Desirable Attributes
- Experience in healthcare, commercial, or public sector maintenance
- Familiarity with technical documentation, plant management, and compliance processes
- Willingness to undertake further training and development
- Flexibility to work across multiple sites as needed
