Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

Waikato Hospital is one of the largest tertiary hospitals in the country, and we currently have 0.4FTE of a Unit Charge position in the Interventional Radiology Department available.

We require someone who is IR trained to work alongside our current Unit Charge, in a shared position.

The Interventional team comprises 10 IR trained MRTs who work across IR and Vascular, along with 14 IR Nurses and 5 Interventional Radiologists.

We work 0800-1630 Monday – Friday with an on call service out of hours.

We have 2 Philips Azurion machines in IR, and 1 Philips Azurion currently being installed in Main Theatre.


Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Aid in leading the team to maintain a high standard of imaging, using the latest technology available.
  • Deliver safe, respectful, effective and efficient patient care and optimal service delivery
  • Participate in an out of hours on call roster
  • Uphold and meet registration and regulatory CPD requirements
  • Work as an effective team player and promote a team culture that fosters collaborative working relationships

The multi-disciplinary Interventional Radiology team is supportive, dynamic and flexible, working collaboratively to provide quality care to patients within our region. IR caters to all specialties and performs a wide range of minimally invasive procedures, which rely on the use of radiological image guidance. 


Mōu | About you

 The following skills and experience are required to be considered for this role:

  • Registration with the Medical Imaging Technologist Board of NZ (MRTB)
  • Hold a current Annual practising certificate (APC)
  • Clinical practise experience in general Radiography
  • Actively involved in continuing professional development meeting all MRTB requirements
  • Broad knowledge of Emergency, general, modality and Trauma at a tertiary level
  • Sound knowledge in IT systems and applications
  • Have the ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
