The Tāmaki Regeneration Company (TRC) is New Zealand’s largest urban regeneration entity, dedicated to transforming communities in Glen Innes, Panmure, and Point England. TRC partners closely with Mana Whenua, community groups, and key stakeholders to regenerate 2,500 social homes, create 10,500 new homes, and enhance social outcomes for future generations.

About the role:
TRC is seeking an Urban Design Projects Lead to guide design processes for major developments within the Tāmaki regeneration programme. You will be responsible for translating high-level masterplans into site-specific designs, working on large-scale urban projects, and ensuring alignment with community and cultural needs. You’ll collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to deliver functional, livable, community-focused urban solutions.
What you will do:
• Lead urban design on large-scale projects and smaller site developments
• Lead urban design on large-scale projects and smaller site developments
• Conduct feasibility, typology, and layout studies
• Participate in and guide design workshops, translating masterplan concepts into actionable designs
• Ensure designs reflect community aspirations, particularly for Māori and Pasifika cultures
• Collaborate with internal and external teams on the creation of urban designs and review urban designs to ensure they remain fit for purpose
Who you will be:
You will have 5+ years of experience in urban design, architecture, or planning, with strong communication and design thinking skills focused on livability and spatial strategy. Experience with Adobe Suite, Photoshop, and/or SketchUp is ideal, as is the ability to visualise design solutions and engage with/present to diverse stakeholders. While a tertiary qualification is preferred, it is not required. Strong interpersonal, project management, and cultural competency skills are essential, along with a passion for ongoing learning and the ability to collaborate and have fun with the team. Experience with local and central government processes and familiarity with Tāmaki or similar communities will be an advantage.
