At the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) | Te Pā Whakamarumaru, we are dedicated to our mission of keeping Aotearoa New Zealand and our people safe and secure. We collect, analyse and assess intelligence which enables us to provide advice and guidance to protect New Zealand from threats such as foreign interference, espionage and terrorism.
About the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic Vetting Officer to join our friendly, supportive team. In this key role, you will have the opportunity to have a direct impact on the security and well-being of New Zealand. The NZSIS has a statutory mandate to conduct security vetting in New Zealand on behalf of all government agencies. The role of a Vetting Officer is to conduct background investigations, and interview nominated government employees and their referees in order to assess suitability to hold a national security clearance.

Who we're looking for
Excellent judgement and confidence to work with people from all backgrounds will be key for this role.
Ideally you have:
- Proven interviewing skills both face to face and by telephone
- Considerable experience in investigative or information gathering and analysis work
- Advanced oral and written communication skills
- A high level of integrity, trustworthiness and discretion
- The ability to make well researched, informed and open-minded assessments with regard for differing lifestyles, backgrounds and cultures
Before you apply
Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.
You must:
- Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
OR
Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
- Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
- Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.

The appointment range for this role is $87,048 - $92,851.
