Job Description

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Join our diverse and talented people and work at the heart of national security, providing essential intelligence to the NZ government to protect New Zealand and its people.

At the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) | Te Pā Whakamarumaru, we are dedicated to our mission of keeping Aotearoa New Zealand and our people safe and secure. We collect, analyse and assess intelligence which enables us to provide advice and guidance to protect New Zealand from threats such as foreign interference, espionage and terrorism.

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Vetting Officer to join our friendly, supportive team.  In this key role, you will have the opportunity to have a direct impact on the security and well-being of New Zealand. This is a superb opportunity to build on your existing experience and further develop your skills in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

The NZSIS has a statutory mandate to conduct security vetting in New Zealand on behalf of all government agencies. The role of a Vetting Officer is to conduct background investigations, and interview nominated government employees and their referees in order to assess suitability to hold a national security clearance.

This opportunity will provide you with unique and stimulating subject-matter and a close-knit, collaborative team. If you have a positive attitude, are adaptable and enjoy working collaboratively to solve problems and make decisions, this may be the role for you.

Why work for us

Alongside getting to work with our talented people, we also offer a range of comprehensive benefits which include:

  • Medical Insurance and Vision Care packages
  • Enhanced employer contributions to your Kiwisaver
  • Generous Leave benefits, including additional paid days off and enhanced sick and parental leave

Ideally you have:

  • Proven interviewing skills both face to face and by telephone
  • Considerable experience in investigative or information gathering and analysis work
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • A high level of integrity, trustworthiness and discretion
  • The ability to make well researched, informed and open-minded assessments with regard for differing lifestyles, backgrounds and cultures

Before you apply

Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
