About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
As part of our Learning & Development (L&D) team, you'll bring your visual design expertise to the table. Advise on, and create, engaging impactful visuals that enhance learning. Your work is grounded in best practices for visual design, interactivity, accessibility, and usability.
MPI is a great place to work with a variety of projects supporting positive outcomes for New Zealand. Our learning initiatives range from large-scale learning programs to focused, tailored solutions. These include facilitated workshops, videos, e-learning modules, webinars, and learner support materials such as user guides. We support all areas of the business, offering a rich variety of topics, audiences, and challenges.
You'll collaborate closely with colleagues across L&D, Organisational Development, and business units to develop high-quality learning visuals using a variety of tools and approaches. Your ability to be creative within an organisations style guide is imperative. Contribute to a supportive team culture, helping with the small things that ensure we all succeed together.
Focus on graphical elements, visual treatments and the look and feel of learning within MPI. Create illustrations and icons as well as avatar character creation. Your strong graphic design skills and potential background in education and training will be showcased through what makes good accessibility.
Desirable, but not necessary are video and/or animation skills.
About You - Mōu
You love to apply your visual design expertise to craft engaging visual solutions that enhance performance across the Ministry for Primary Industries. You are skilled in a range of digital design tools and technologies, with strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud.
Your approach is grounded in accessibility and user experience (UX) best practices, and you'll be driven by a commitment to continuous improvement.
Collaboration is key in our team—you'll work closely with L&D colleagues to brainstorm ideas and deliver high-value solutions to our customers. Your keen eye for detail and experience with quality assurance processes and testing techniques will ensure your work meets the highest standards.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A high level of expertise in Adobe CC, (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Premier Pro).
- An eye and passion for design, high attention to detail and the ability to craft quality deliverables.
- Experience in developing visual design for digital learning and print artefacts including workbooks, posters, infographics, diagrams, templates, and campaign material for both internal and external audiences.
- Demonstrable relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to exercise diplomacy and discretion.
- Understanding of Māori culture and cultural awareness as well as a willingness to learn and grow in this space.
- Likely experienced working in the public sector and preferably worked within the L&D space.
