Mō tēnei tūranga - about the role

This Volunteer Support Officer (VSO) role ensures that brigades are capable, sustainable and autonomous. It supports operations and assists with compliance to support over 600 volunteers to be safe, organised and valued.  This role will cover West Auckland, North Shore and Rodney stations in the Waitemata Fire District, where you will need to be based.  These Bridges are a mix of Career and Volunteer stations from urban to rural with almost 900 personnel. You will also

 

  • Support brigade training nights/events by coordinating resources and materials.
  • Complete monthly volunteer station checks and work with the Chief Fire Officer/ Controller/OIC and Brigade on any remedial actions.
  • Assist with new initiatives, equipment, and programmes, either regional or national, to support your volunteer brigades.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement.
  • Attend incidents with supplies to support and assist where needed.

 

Ko tāu nā i tēnei tūranga - What you'll bring to the role:

If you are successful in this role you would need to work collaboratively with volunteer leaders and brigade members across the 30 volunteer stations in the district as well as the wider Volunteer Support group in the district office. 

You will need to have an understanding of FENZs principals of volunteerism as well as demonstrate an ability and commitment to implement them, be able to manage your own time efficiently, prioritise competing demands, have flexibility to meet the needs of our volunteer brigades, this may include evening work and an on-call roster.

 

To be successful in this role, we'd expect you will:

  • Relevant NZQA or TAPS or equivalent qualifications.
  • Be current in annual BA revalidation, ERD and pump operation.
  • Organisational knowledge.
  • Understanding of how Volunteer Brigades operate and empathy for volunteerism.
  • Have a high level of knowledge in the use of the volunteer dashboard and how to influence a positive outcome.
  • Be proficient in using MS Office and other IT systems.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and must have a heavy vehicle license.

 

The salary range for this role is PFU: $83,673.38 - $105,721.33 - PSA: $97,052 – $107,836 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
