We have an exciting opportunity for a Volunteer Support Officer to deliver services and support to our volunteer stations.


Mō tēnei tūranga - about the role

This is a permanent position that can be based out of either Westport or Greymouth. The role of the Volunteer Support Officer (VSO) ensures the capability and sustainability of our volunteer brigades. The primary focus of this role is to support all volunteer stations within the West Coast district.
You will:

  • Support, guide and provide up to date advice to volunteer brigades so they can meet their fire risk management, business planning and training requirements.
  • Advising and supporting brigades with area management to ensure they maintain a state of operational readiness at all times and assisting where necessary to ensure operational readiness and Occupational Safety Health (OSH) requirements are met.
  • Develop trusted and professional working relationships with the volunteer brigades, Area, Region staff, Training, Career staff, other internal and external stakeholders and communities.

As this role supports our volunteer brigades, applicants will need to have flexibility and availability for some evening work and be on an on-call roster.

If you're passionate about the role volunteer brigades play in their communities, then this role will provide you with a unique opportunity to utilise your knowledge and skills to support them.

 

To be successful in this role, we'd expect you will:

  • Possess strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
  • Be proficient in using MS Office and other IT systems.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills, suitable for collaborating within a small team.
  • Hold a valid driver's license. Having a heavy vehicle license would be an advantage.

The salary range for this role is PFU: $87,673.38 - $105,721.33 - PSA: HO14 $97,052 – $107,836 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
