Job Description
The Company
Our client continues a long-standing dedication to ensuring blind, or deafblind/low vision, learners are provided the skills and resources needed to reach their full potential. There is an intentional and palpable importance surrounding a variety of cultures that are displayed throughout their facilities, teachings, and interactions with families.
The Role
You will provide care and support to young people in residential/educational programs through pastoral care and the teaching of independent living skills. This role is to fill gaps generally morning and evening for first or last meal.
- Working with young people affected by different types of vision concerns to teach independent living skills
- Building trusting relationships with the young people and guiding them through new challenges
- Building a strong working relationship with the existing team
- Responsible for the day-to-day function of the hostel during the weekend hours
- 10 hours per weekend across Saturday and Sunday
The Ideal candidate
- Have an understanding of the importance of strong relationships with young people in the centre while being able to manage professional boundaries effectiveness
- Have an understanding of and commitment to adhering to the Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Have an interest in Maori and Pasifika cultures and a desire to be inclusive at the workplace and when working with families
- Personality/Character: high energy, enthusiasm, reliability, physically fit, outgoing, mature, common sense, high initiative, a genuine interest in people, approachable
- Excellent written and verbal communication and record keeping skills
- Competent with computers and software applications
- Has a full, clean, NZ Class 1 drivers license
- Comfortable working with a broad range of cultures, genders, and beliefs
