About the role
This is a rare opportunity to shape wellbeing, health, and safety practice in a vibrant and complex educational setting. You’ll be responsible for leading strategy, ensuring legislative compliance, managing psychosocial and physical risks, and embedding a proactive, values-based culture of care.
  
Reporting into the People & Culture Director and supported by a Health and Safety Advisor, this role influences both local operations and regional collaboration. It requires strong stakeholder engagement across a wide geographical footprint, offering the scope to deliver meaningful change and impact. Based in Napier, with travel to other campuses. Gisborne base could also be considered.

This is a collaborative environment where technical strength is valued, but practical engagement is essential.
  
Duties
  • Lead development of wellbeing and safety strategy and frameworks
  • Engage and influence executive and operational stakeholders
  • Oversee incident management, compliance and critical risk systems
  • Design and implement wellbeing initiatives and training  
Skills and experience 
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in HSW or related discipline
  • Practical experience across health, safety, wellbeing, and psychosocial risk
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand HSW legislation
  • Proven ability to lead strategic and cultural change
  • Confident communicator, adaptable to varied environments
